C905 - A look at the ‘other’ features

September 11, 2008

OK - so we’ve already had a look at the key features on the Sony Ericsson C905 such as the Camera, GPS and WI-FI. Read on for an insight into the ‘other’ features that some may or may not consider less important. As ever, let us know what you think by dropping a comment at the bottom of this article.

TrackIDTM

TrackIDTM enables the user to identify a track playing on the built-in radio, or a track playing in the room using their Sony Ericsson C905. A few seconds of the song is sampled, the C905 then connects to an online database, which identifies the song and returns title, artist and album information.

Stereo widening

The Stereo Widening effects on the C905 improve the sound experience when listening to music through a stereo Bluetooth headset, external stereo speakers or a stereo portable handsfree.

Video camera

The Sony Ericsson C905 camera captures a video recording and saves it in the phone or on a memory card. A video clip can be shared as a picture message or email with friends and family or using any available transfer method, such as BluetoothTM wireless technology. The C905 supports QVGA size video recording.

Web feeds

A built-in RSS (Really Simple Syndication) Reader is used in combination with the Internet browser on the C905. When browsing, frequently updated content such as news headlines or podcasts can be received as feeds.

Web feeds ticker

News headlines you subscribe to can be shown in standby using Web feeds on the C905.

HTML Web browser support

Browse the Internet using your Sony Ericsson C905 and look at Web sites in a different way with Access NetFrontTM 3.4 - an HTML browser which supports a complete Web standard suite.

Photo tags

Navigate through your captured photos and thousands of downsized photos transferred from your computer to your C905. View captured photos and video clips in an intuitive timeline view. Play animated slide shows with music and different moods. Tag your photos to find them faster. The built-in sensor in the camera ensures that all photos are rotated correctly.

PictBridgeTM - Camera printing

Print photos from the C905 using the USB cable directly to a printer, without a computer or photo editing software.

TV out support

TV out can be used to connect your C905 to a TV so that you can show and share your photos on a big screen. Photos will be shown in VGA size. The TV-Out Cable ITC-60 (sold separately) is necessary to connect your phone to the TV.

Push email

The C905 supports push email, a method of pushing new email messages automatically to mobile devices. Push email increases mobile email usability, with email being delivered in the background (similar to SMS or MMS).

Media

A unique Sony Ericsson C905 media experience. All media can be accessed directly from the desktop. Navigate seamlessly through captured photos and video clips, pictures, photo tags, music, videos and more.

Music player

Located in Media on the C905. Play downloaded music and audio. The navigation system enables you, for example, to browse through your favourite tracks and create simple playlists.

Sony Ericsson C905 Media Manager

Music, photo and video clip management software is available on the CD included in the kit. Transfer music, video clips and photos to and from your Sony Ericsson C905. Search for and select music on your computer or audio CDs and convert your existing audio tracks to formats suitable for mobile use before transferring them to your phone. You can also subscribe to feeds such as video and music podcasts.

Sony Ericsson PlayNowTM 5.0

A unique and easy-to-use direct-link for downloading ringtones, full track music, games, themes and wallpapers to your C905. PlayNowTM offers best-selling content for mobile download. Users can preview content on their C905 before purchase. Users have access to a catalogue of millions of tracks from both international and local labels. By combining the PlayNowTM catalogue with unique applications like TrackIDTM users are presented with a My TrackIDTM list and TrackIDTM Charts by country, created by TrackIDTM users around the world. These charts are based on what songs other users are searching for and want to hear the most. PlayNowTM supports MP3 and Windows Media DRM file formats for music.

Sony Ericsson PlayNowTM uncut

PlayNowTM uncut is a promotional site for introducing new and developing artists. PlayNowTM uncut includes full track music, videos, gig schedules and information about the stars of tomorrow. PlayNowTM uncut provides consumers with the possibility to discover new music which otherwise might pass them by. At the same time, the site offers artists and songwriters the opportunity to have their music heard by millions of consumers.

Gaming

Gaming is a very popular feature in mobile phones. Shake or tilt the Sony Ericsson C905 to control gaming functions. Two action keys have been added to intensify the experience. With JavaTM, users can download new games and skill levels to their C905 to further enhance their entertainment experience.

JavaTM

Use your Sony Ericsson C905 to download additional applications which are information and entertainment-based. This gives users a chance to personalise the functions and features in their C905, and developers the opportunity to create new applications . Java Platform 8.4.0 (JP-8.4.0), supports a range of new Java programming features including instant messaging (chat) and presence-based functionality, handling banking, payment transactions, user identification and authentication through secure encryption technology.

BluetoothTM wireless technology

Several devices (simultaneous BluetoothTM wireless technology connections) can be connected up to 10 metres (33 feet) away using Bluetooth wireless technology. For example, when your Sony Ericsson C905 rings, it can be answered with a Bluetooth headset, and images can be sent to another phone at the same time. Several mobile phones can take part in a Bluetooth wireless technology-supported game and the phone and a computer can exchange data such as images, video clips, vCards, music files and calendar data. Bluetooth wireless technology version 2.0 and Enhanced Data Rate (EDR) is supported.

BluetoothTM audio streaming

Listen to audio in compatible devices. By connecting a Bluetooth Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) compatible accessory, such as a stereo Bluetooth headset or a Bluetooth music receiver, you can enjoy high quality stereo audio streaming wirelessly from the C905. Many A2DP accessories also support the Bluetooth Audio Video Remote Control Profile (AVRCP) allowing you to control the player in the Sony Ericsson C905 using the accessory interface.

USB 2.0 mass storage

When connecting the Sony Ericsson C905 to a computer using the provided USB cable, the memory in the phone appears on the computer screen as a removable disk along with other disks and drives in the computer. You can then quickly and easily drag and drop items such as images, documents, music and video clips between folders in the C905 and the computer.

Media Transfer Protocol (MTP)

With Media Transfer Protocol you can transfer media files and synchronise playlists when the C905 is connected to the computer using the USB cable. It is possible to use MTP in Media transfer mode or Phone mode. MTP is supported by Sony Ericsson Media Manager, Windows Media Player 11 and higher in Windows XP and Windows VistaTM.

Personal Information Management (PIM)

Stay up-to-date with everyday events by synchronizing phone contacts, calendar appointments, tasks and notes in the C905 with similar programs in a computer. The USB cable which comes with the C905, or the built-in Bluetooth wireless technology feature can be used together with the synchronization software which is available on the CD in the kit or can be downloaded from       www.sonyericsson.com/support . Smart search your contacts and call list for phone numbers or names from standby. Predefined speed dial numbers can be quickly sent out from standby.

Common Internet File System (CIFS)

The Common Internet File System enables file transfer to and from your Sony Ericsson C905 mobile phone. The C905 acts as a file server which allows you to copy and move files between your PC and the server. You can use this feature when connected using the USB cable or the Bluetooth wireless technology connection.

Photos taken by C905

September 1, 2008

We have obtained some photos which have been taken by a Sony Ericsson C905 mobile phone. These photos were taken with a prototype C905 handset (in other words a handset that was still been developed and improved). Nevertheless, it is clear to see that this camera is simply sensational. We look forward to getting our hands of a final version of the C905 soon so we can put the camera through its paces ourselves. For now though you’ll have to make do with the following.

Click on the thumbnails to view a super size version. Note - these photos are of the resolution 1000 x 1000 (approx). The actual resolution of photos taken by the C905 is 3264 x 2448 (wow) but due to the excessive bandwidth that these photos would take we have reduced the size whilst still maintaining 100% of the quality.

Enjoy! - as ever, let us know what you think by leaving a comment below!

5 reasons to buy the Sony Ericsson C905

August 28, 2008

1. Pixel power - say goodbye to your standalone camera!

The C905 is not just a fantastic phone; it’s a fantastic phone with a mind-blowing 8 megapixel camera which captures stunning pictures and records high quality video! This means you can say goodbye to your bulky standalone camera and say hello to your 2-in-1 mobile phone and camera. One could even argue that the C905 is a high end digital camera with a built in mobile phone - not the other way around! However, it’s not just the 8 megapixel camera that makes the C905 so special. Add to this the Xenon flash, 16x digital zoom, bestpic, auto focus, image and video stabiliser and much more and you can clearly see why this phone will be a contender for ‘Phone of the Year 2008′.

2. GPS - Global Positioning System

Never get lost again with the latest GPS technology in the Sony Ericsson C905. The C905 comes installed with GPS and location based services inc. Google Maps and a 3 month trial of Wayfinder Navigator! At the click of only a few buttons, the C905 allows you to easily find out where you are, where you need to go or where you should have gone! To makes things even more interesting, the GPS comes supports “Geo Tagging” which means that when you take a photo it is tagged with geographical data so that the location of where the photo was taken can be shown on a map.

3. WI-FI technology - broadband speed internet on the go

The C905 allows you to access the internet wirelessly by connecting to WI-FI networks. This means that you can use your C905 to continually check Facebook every 10 minutes whether you’re sat on the toilet (of all places) at home, bored to death at work, fed up on the train, posing in Starbucks or anywhere else where there are WI-FI networks available! And for all you techies out there, the Sony Ericsson C905 supports 802.11b and 802.11g!

4. 2.4-inch scratch resistant mineral glass screen - so big your granny could see it!

It’s all good and well being able to browse the internet and use GPS on your mobile phone but you need to be able to clearly see and read your screen. Don’t worry - with the C905 and its large 2.4-inch screen you can rest assured that whether you’re checking the latest share prices online or browsing Google Maps, the screen is easily viewed. For all you techies out there, the C905 has a large 2.4-inch QVGA 262K colour screen which superbly enhances and facilitates high-quality multimedia and entertainment.

5. It’s music to your ears

Literally. The C905 comes with its infamous MP3 playing technology built in meaning your favourite songs (we recommend Kings of Leon’s new album) will sound top of the pops (apologies for that terrible cliché). And with space for up to 8bg of memory (approx 2000 songs) you could potentially consider leaving your iPod at home! And did we mention the built in radio? All this comes with Sony Ericsson’s impressive earphones included in the box.

6. Size - good things DO come in small sizes!

Considering all the features mentioned above (and all the others we haven’t mentioned) the size of the C905 is impressive to say the least - measuring in at an incredible 10.4cm (height) x 4.9cm (width) and 1.8cm (depth). In addition to this, the C905 weighs in at an unbelievable 136 grams!

7. Once, twice, three times a Sony Ericsson C905

Sony Ericcson, although renowned for style, are not too renown for offering their phones in different colours. All this changes with the C905 with 3 different colours to choose from - Black, Silver and Gold. Our favourite is Silver although we don’t dislike any - what do you think?

8. Would you like one for free, nil, diddly-squat, £0.00?

Rumour has it that the Sony Ericsson C905 will be free on selected tariffs! That means you can get a feature packed mobile phone plus an 8 megapixel digital camera for free! Stay tuned to this website as we will soon be launching a price comparison section for the C905 so that you can find the best deal to suit you!

9. OK, so we surpassed 5 reasons to buy the Sony Ericsson C905. In fact, we could probably surpass 50 reasons if we really tried. Can you think of any more reasons? If so, leave us your thoughts below…

C905 - Black, Silver or Gold?

August 27, 2008

It’s not like Sony Ericsson to spoil consumers with multiple choices of colour for their mobile phones. However, with the C905 things have changed. This sleak and sexy 8 megapixel camera phone comes in 3 different colours and we like all of them!

  • Black
  • Copper Gold
  • Silver
  • However, for contrast purposes we have to favour the silver C905 which looks so elegant set against its black keypad. All 3 colours will be available in the UK when the C905 goes on sale in October 2008. Let us know your favourite by leaving a comment below!

    C905 Auto Rotate

    August 6, 2008

Capturing a portrait photo with a horizontal camera usually results in a photo which must be rotated manually when viewed later. With the C905, however, things are different. Auto rotate is a new feature which enables C905 Cyber-shot™ to register how the phone is oriented when the photo is taken, whether it is held in portrait or landscape mode. To put it simply, the C905 saves ‘photo format information’ within the photo. Then when the viewed later on the C905, the photo is automatically rotated and presented with the same orientation as it was originally taken.

    C905 BestPic

    August 6, 2008

C905 BestPic™ is a unique function for camera imaging. Taking a single photo or even a burst of photos does not always catch the moment, which may have been just before or just after the camera key was pressed. C905 BestPic™ is designed to solve this problem. Press the camera key on the C905 half way down and the C905 camera starts capturing photos. Press the key fully down, and seven photos appear automatically. The photos range from left (just before pressing the camera key fully down) to centre (camera key fully down) to right (just after pressing the camera key fully down). The centre photo is the default photo, but not necessarily the best one. However, with the C905 you can browse the photo series and save the best photos. BestPic™ on the C905 has been updated and can now be used together with the Photo flash.
