September 11, 2008
OK - so we’ve already had a look at the key features on the Sony Ericsson C905 such as the Camera, GPS and WI-FI. Read on for an insight into the ‘other’ features that some may or may not consider less important. As ever, let us know what you think by dropping a comment at the bottom of this article.
TrackIDTM
TrackIDTM enables the user to identify a track playing on the built-in radio, or a track playing in the room using their Sony Ericsson C905. A few seconds of the song is sampled, the C905 then connects to an online database, which identifies the song and returns title, artist and album information.
Stereo widening
The Stereo Widening effects on the C905 improve the sound experience when listening to music through a stereo Bluetooth headset, external stereo speakers or a stereo portable handsfree.
Video camera
The Sony Ericsson C905 camera captures a video recording and saves it in the phone or on a memory card. A video clip can be shared as a picture message or email with friends and family or using any available transfer method, such as BluetoothTM wireless technology. The C905 supports QVGA size video recording.

Play animated slide shows with music and different moods. Tag your photos to find them faster. The built-in sensor in the camera ensures that all photos are rotated correctly.

The C905 supports push email, a method of pushing new email messages automatically to mobile devices. Push email increases mobile email usability, with email being delivered in the background (similar to SMS or MMS).

PlayNowTM uncut is a promotional site for introducing new and developing artists. PlayNowTM uncut includes full track music, videos, gig schedules and information about the stars of tomorrow. PlayNowTM uncut provides consumers with the possibility to discover new music which otherwise might pass them by. At the same time, the site offers artists and songwriters the opportunity to have their music heard by millions of consumers.
Gaming
Gaming is a very popular feature in mobile phones. Shake or tilt the Sony Ericsson C905 to control gaming functions. Two action keys have been added to intensify the experience. With JavaTM, users can download new games and skill levels to their C905 to further enhance their entertainment experience.
JavaTM
Use your Sony Ericsson C905 to download additional applications which are information and entertainment-based. BluetoothTM wireless technology
Several devices (simultaneous BluetoothTM wireless technology connections) can be connected up to 10 metres (33 feet) away using Bluetooth wireless technology. For example, when your Sony Ericsson C905 rings, it can be answered with a Bluetooth headset, and images can be sent to another phone at the same time. Several mobile phones can take part in a Bluetooth wireless technology-supported game and the phone and a computer can exchange data such as images, video clips, vCards, music files and calendar data. Bluetooth wireless technology version 2.0 and Enhanced Data Rate (EDR) is supported.
BluetoothTM audio streaming
Listen to audio in compatible devices. By connecting a Bluetooth Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) compatible accessory, such as a stereo Bluetooth headset or a Bluetooth music receiver, you can enjoy high quality stereo audio streaming wirelessly from the C905. Many A2DP accessories also support the Bluetooth Audio Video Remote Control Profile (AVRCP) allowing you to control the player in the Sony Ericsson C905 using the accessory interface.
USB 2.0 mass storage
When connecting the Sony Ericsson C905 to a computer using the provided USB cable, the memory in the phone appears on the computer screen as a removable disk along with other disks and drives in the computer. You can then quickly and easily drag and drop items such as images, documents, music and video clips between folders in the C905 and the computer.
Media Transfer Protocol (MTP)
With Media Transfer Protocol you can transfer media files and synchronise playlists when the C905 is connected to the computer using the USB cable. It is possible to use MTP in Media transfer mode or Phone mode. MTP is supported by Sony Ericsson Media Manager, Windows Media Player 11 and higher in Windows XP and Windows VistaTM.

Smart search your contacts and call list for phone numbers or names from standby. Predefined speed dial numbers can be quickly sent out from standby.
Common Internet File System (CIFS)
The Common Internet File System enables file transfer to and from your Sony Ericsson C905 mobile phone. The C905 acts as a file server which allows you to copy and move files between your PC and the server. You can use this feature when connected using the USB cable or the Bluetooth wireless technology connection.
Sony Ericsson C905 Video Preview
September 6, 2008
Welcome to our C905 video gallery. We will continue to update this page with videos of the C905 that we feel may be of interest to you.
The first half of this video discusses the C905 camera whilst the send half briefly discusses GPS, WI-FI, GEO Tagging and many other features. Interestingly , the Sony Ericsson employee who is demonstrating the C905 suggests (not confirms) that the price of the C905 on pay monthly / contract should be around the £30-40 mark depending on your contract length when released in October 2008.
The second video has no sound but offers could clarity as to the size of the Sony Ericsson C905 mobile phone. The video compares the size of the C905 against the very popular and very slim Motorola RAZR V3 which was released in 2005 and contained a 1.3 megapixel camera. We’re really impressed by this video as if you’re familiar with the Motorola RAZR V3 phone, you’ll appreciate just how well Sony Ericsson have done to make a featured packed phone as small as the C905.
The third video features the Ice Silver and Black Sony Ericsson C905 which may help if you’re unsure about which colour to get when it’s released in October (although you may even prefer the C905 Copper Gold version which isn’t featured. We prefer the Ice Silver as stated in other posts due to the nice looking contrast with the Silver outer colour and the dark keypad. This video gives a nice insight into the external aspects of the C905 as well as a look at the menu and camera.
As ever, you’re welcome to let us know your thoughts by leaving a comment below!
Sony Ericsson C905 Preview
September 3, 2008
The Sony Ericsson C905 was unveiled to the world’s media on 12th June 2008. The C905 was the first 8 megapixel camera phone to be announced (outside of Asia) and was set to be the first 8 megapixel camera phone to hit the market in October 2008 although it has now been pipped at the post by the Samsung i8510 which was announced after the C905 but released on 1st September 2008.
As evident from the name, the Sony Ericsson C905 is a high end model in the ‘C range’ of Sony Ericsson mobile phones. C stands for Cybershot - a line of digital cameras made by Sony. Many suggest that the Sony Ericsson C905 is a successor to the very popular K800i mobile phone which was released in 2006 and was at the time renowned for its high-end camera specification.
The first thing you notice about the Sony Ericsson C905 is its simple yet sophisticated design. Then you pick it up and it hits you - how have Sony Ericsson managed to squeeze an 8 megapixel camera with numerous features, 3G, WI-FI, GPS, MP3 player, et al into such a slim and sleek frame. To be honest, we expected the C905 to be quite handful - perhaps more than a handful - but we couldn’t of being more wrong. Sizing in at a respectable 10.4 x 4.9 x 1.8 cm and weighing only 136g, we could barely feel the C905 in our jean pockets.
Main Features
OK, we’ve already mentioned the whopping 8 megapixel camera but we haven’t mentioned the gazillion other features that really allow the C905 camera to shine. So here we go:
Face detection - you know how annoying it is when you’re trying to take a photo and your friend suddenly moves their face resulting in a blurry photo. Well fear no more - with face detection activated on the C905 the camera intelligently identifies and then focuses on your friends face without you having to do anything! And to make things even more satisfying, you can actually see the feature working when looking at your viewfinder (screen) when taking a photo!
Bestpic - activate Bestpic and you’ll never have to worry about timing your photos to perfection again. With Bestpic on the C905, at the click of one button the camera takes a series of 7 photos in quick succession. You can then simply preview all seven photos choosing to delete the ones you don’t want!
And if those camera features weren’t good enough, check out the remainder of them now; digital zoom up to 16x, image stabiliser, red eye reduction, picture blogging, video light, video recording, video stabiliser and Xenon flash! You’ll be pleased to know too that the resolution of the C905 camera is impressive to lay the least…coming in at 3264 x 2448 pixels.
The C905 is the first Sony Ericsson mobile phone (apart from its Smartphone range) to come with built in WI-FI which gives you a true wireless network experience. Forget slow ‘GPRS’ or dare we say ‘WAP’ - with WI-FI on the C905 you get broadband speed internet at the click of a few buttons. This means that Facebook, YouTube, Email, Banking, Share Prices and Breaking World News are literally never more than a couple of seconds away* (*subject to been connected to a wireless network). But don’t worry, if you’re not in the vicinity of a wireless network you can use ‘HSDPA 3G’ as a backup - still allowing for broadband like speeds.
With the C905 you don’t have to worry about ever getting lost again no matter where your travels take you. The C905 has built in GPS technology and includes a trial version of Wayfinder Navigator. With the C905 and Wayfinder at hand you’ll be sure to stay on course with turn by turn navigation instructions, unlimited access to an online travel planning tool and downloadable maps* (*length of trial and coverage subject to local variations). In addition to this, the C905 allows you to effortlessly connect to Google Maps too for additional visual guidance!
3G on the C905 means that (aside from fast internet browsing) you can see who you’re talking to at the other end of the phone line using video calling. But make sure you remember to look your best as they can see you too! And with the sensational high resolution 2.4 inch QVGA screen (which displays over a quarter of a million colours), you won’t want to hang the video call up!
TV out support - TV out can be used to show and share your photos on TV. Photos will be shown in VGA size. The TV-Out Cable ITC-60 (sold separately) is necessary to connect your phone to the TV.
PictBridge - Camera printing - Print photos from the phone using the USB cable directly to a printer, without a computer or photo editing software.
Photo tags - Navigate through your captured photos and thousands of downsized photos transferred from your computer. View captured photos and video clips in an intuitive timeline view. Play animated slide shows with music and different moods. Tag your photos to find them faster. The built-in sensor in the camera ensures that all photos are rotated correctly.
Auto rotate - Capturing a portrait photo with a horizontal camera, usually results in a photo which must be rotated manually when viewed later, in the phone. Auto rotate is a new feature, which enables C905 Cybershot to register how the phone is oriented when the photo is taken, whether it is held in portrait or landscape mode. This information is saved with the photo. When viewed, the photo is automatically rotated and presented with the same orientation as it was originally taken.
The C905 is available in 3 colours as posted here. The C905 release date is currently set as October 2008 with prices ranging from free on selected pay monthly contracts to £300+ on Pay As You Go.
Photos taken by C905
September 1, 2008
We have obtained some photos which have been taken by a Sony Ericsson C905 mobile phone. These photos were taken with a prototype C905 handset (in other words a handset that was still been developed and improved). Nevertheless, it is clear to see that this camera is simply sensational. We look forward to getting our hands of a final version of the C905 soon so we can put the camera through its paces ourselves. For now though you’ll have to make do with the following.
Click on the thumbnails to view a super size version. Note - these photos are of the resolution 1000 x 1000 (approx). The actual resolution of photos taken by the C905 is 3264 x 2448 (wow) but due to the excessive bandwidth that these photos would take we have reduced the size whilst still maintaining 100% of the quality.
Enjoy! - as ever, let us know what you think by leaving a comment below!
